Luke Skywalker: you know who he is or you wouldn't be on this wiki! But moving along.

Romances and attractions[]

Except for Leia. Because.

In the films, Luke never has a romantic relationship and doesn't clearly express attractions (... again, let's skip over Leia). The original trilogy not pairing him up with someone by the end inspired various headcanons of Luke as asexual and/or aromantic, celibate (like a monk or to avoid attachments), figuring out his sexuality, and other possibilities besides defaulting to the trope of heterosexual marriage = happy ending. New Canon did not take that route with him. Legends gave him a marriage with Mara Jade Skywalker: (Spoilers for Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice) but instead of that being happily-ever-after, he became a widower when his nephew murdered Mara.

Legends[]

Mara Jade Skywalker[]

The wedding of Luke and Mara was a big Event Comic when it came out, with a mini-series devoted to events leading up to and including it.[34][35][36][37]

New Canon[]

Luke's attractions in New Canon all take place during the original trilogy timeframe. They're three women of color (one East Asian, two ambiguously Brown) and one dark-skinned man. He hasn't been depicted in a romantic relationship, unlike in Legends.

Nakari Kelen[]

LukeSkywalker-NakariKelen

Luke Skywalker with Nakari Kelen (and R2-D2)

Naraki Kelen appeared in a single novel, Heir to the Jedi by Kevin Hearne, which was released in 2014.[27] The novel was originally announced at Celebration VI in 2012[web 1] with an outline turned in by January 17, 2013.[web 2] This means it was in development and outlined during the Expanded Universe era, before Disney/Lucasfilm made the announcement of say-hello-to-Canon-and-bye-bye-to-EU-now-Legends.

Nakari appeared, died,[27] and has since seemingly been forgotten about in-universe. In a slide from Luke's biography gallery on the StarWars.com Databank, Nakari is mentioned without any reference to the romantic feelings between them.[38] Star Wars Timelines remembers her and places Heir to the Jedi in 0 ABY, prior to the attack on Cymoon 1.[5][39] One Rebellion spread notes that "Nakari and Luke kiss",[39] and Luke's personal timeline includes "brief romance with Nakari Kelen".[5]

Chelli Lona Aphra[]

During the Screaming Citadel story, circa 0 ABY[40] Luke and Doctor Aphra meet up and he gets past his initial reluctance to quickly regard her as a friend. She plays along with his friendliness to manipulate him.[24][25] Luke later reflects on what a huge mistake that attraction was, which Aphra's ex-girlfriend Sana Starros helpfully rubs in:[26]

Han Solo
I'm sorry, kid. Trust me, it could have been worse.
Luke Skywalker
Yeah, it could have been. I mean, [Tula Markona's] no Aphra. She's a good one.
Sana Starros
Luke had a thing for Aphra? Firstly, guys and Aphra don't exactly mix. Secondly, you count yourself lucky she and guys don't mix! You survived one Death Star. Don't go wishing for another.
— Luke's lack of love life (and gaydar) is the topic of conversation[26]

Tula Markona[]

Circa 2 ABY, the Rebels are stranded on Hubin and Luke "takes an interest in Thane's daughter, Tula", as Timelines puts it.[41] Right after Thane introduces Tula to Luke, Luke stares at her while she walks away. Han teases him about it ("Let me guess, Luke... her you trust."), which makes Luke blush. They get to talking[42] and the next issue cover shows Tula and Luke facing each other while holding hands. They continue getting to know each other in the issue,[43] and argue about the Rebellion in the next. Imperials show up on Hubin[44] and before Luke has a lightsaber duel with Kreel, Tula kisses Luke. She uses the proximity to slip a smoke grenade into his pocket.[29] The kiss panel appears to be traced/referenced from Leia planting a kiss on him in TESB, so that's... a choice.

Later, because the Rebels's presence contributed to Tula's father's death, she can't look at Luke without thinking of her loss. As they part, she tells him, "Luke. I'm glad we had our kiss... and that it is our last is not without regret." Han's expression of sympathy segues into the exchange about Aphra quoted above.[26]

Reyé Hollis[]

For a complete look at Luke and Reyé's mutual attraction, please see the main article and its description of their story "Luke on the Bright Side". It takes place in Echo Base on Hoth,[28] sometime prior to TESB.

Camie Marstrap[]

Camie
I hate it when you look like that.
Luke Skywalker
Look like what?
Camie
You know what I mean. Like you think something went wrong. Like you got cheated, and this is all a big mistake. Like you should have followed Tank and Biggs, and gone to the Academy like you wanted to. Like you were meant to be far away from here.
Luke Skywalker
Camie—
Camie
Far away from me.
— Luke's dream married life[45]

While on Ahch-To just before the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, Luke has a dream where he never left Tatooine with Ben Kenobi, but instead married one of his childhood friends (although he also calls Biggs his only friend in the same dream), Camie. In this dream, he is framed as feeling unfulfilled and as if something's missing.[45]

"SWCVI: Del Rey's Star Wars Expanded Universe" on StarWars.com. Published 2012-08-24. "Speaking of the original Big Three... we're happy to announce that we'll be doing new, 'classic' novels, taking place during the time of the Original Trilogy. We have two books in the works so far: a Leia-focused novel, to be written by Martha Wells; and a Luke-focused novel, to be written by Kevin Hearne. Our tentative title for the series is Rebels. This is still in the early stages, so there will be more to come as things unfold. Martha and Kevin are both talented authors who are also huge Star Wars fans, and I know they're going to be fantastic additions to the EU." (original link down; URL was: <https://www.starwars.com/news/swcvidel-reys-star-wars-expanded-universe>) (Archived on 2022-02-03)

If @KevinHearne's Star Wars novel turns out half as funny as his outline for it, you guys are in for a lot of fun.
    @nancipants
A humorous Luke novel? I'm intrigued!
    Jennifer Heddle
I think anything Kevin writes will have great humor in it, he's just a funny guy. :)
