Hello there! Obi-Wan Kenobi needs no introduction, right? But he'll eventually get one anyway.
Obi-Wan's friends and contemporaries[]
Who grew up with Obi-Wan? Who's in the Temple at the same time as him?
Similar age[]
In Legends[]
- Bruck Chun (he/him) — Human. Approximately two months younger than Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan's nemesis. He bullies Obi-Wan but tricks adults into thinking that it's Obi-Wan bullying him.[32] (Spoilers for Jedi Apprentice: The Captive Temple) He dies after falling off the edge of a water fall in 44 BBY.[33]
- Bant Eerin (she/her) — Mon Calamari. Approximately three years younger than Obi-Wan. Salmon-coloured skin and silver eyes, small for her age.[34]
- Reeft (he/him) — Dresselian. Friend of Obi-Wan. Best friends with Garen Muln. Always hungry.[35]
- Garen Muln (he/him) — Friend of Obi-Wan. Best friends with Reeft.[35]
- Aalto (he/him) — Friend of Bruck.[35]
- Quinlan Vos (he/him) — same age as Obi-Wan.[36] Kiffar, fought with Obi-Wan in the Stark Hyperspace War in 44 BBY, which was the beginning of their friendship.[37]
In New Canon[]
- Gehren Rand (she/her) — Human, blond, blue eyes. Obi-Wan sleeps next to her in a room shared with at least three other people. A fellow member of Kybuck clan. Before they go on the Gathering to Ilum, Obi-Wan considers Gehren his only friend (Gehren says that's not true, that Kybuck clan loves him). (Spoilers for Obi-Wan (2022) issue#1) She leaves the Jedi and disappears shortly before the Gathering. Obi-Wan never sees her again.[38]
- Prie (she/her) — fellow member of Kybuck clan. [M&A 5] Brown eyes. A friend of Obi-Wan. Animal lover.[25]
- Jape (he/him) — A friend of Obi-Wan. Loves astrophysics.[39]
- Bolla (he/him) — Rodian. In a different clan from Obi-Wan. Competitive with Obi-Wan, never got along together as initiates, though they were in the same social circle.[40]
- Siri Tachi (she/her) — she and Obi-Wan were close as initiates.[40]
- Cere Junda (she/her) — impulsive and hotheaded as a Padawan,[41] knighted in 41 BBY[42][8] (so older than Obi-Wan, but still a Padawan for three years after he became one). Human, dark skin, dark hair. Apprenticed to Eno Cordova.[41]
Older[]
- Legends · Tahl (she/her) — Jedi Knight. Captured and tortured on Melida/Daan,[43] and when she returns, she is blind.[44]
- Legends · Tyvokka (he/him) — Wookiee, Plo Koon's former master. (Spoilers for Star Wars (1998) issue #36) Dies during the Stark Hyperspace War[45]
- Legends & New Canon · Plo Koon (he/him) — Kel Dor. Friend of Qui-Gon in Legends,[45] later serves with Obi-Wan on the High Council in both continuities.[2]
- Legends & New Canon · Yoda — Hundreds of years older;[46] in New Canon, Obi-Wan leaves Anakin with Yoda when he goes on solo missions sometimes.[47]
Unknown[]
- New Canon · Master Tosan — gives Obi-Wan a mission assignment from the High Council[47] some time between 32 BBY and 29 BBY.[Note 4]
- New Canon · Luminara Unduli (she/her) — Mirialan. She can't be younger than Obi-Wan because she trained at least one Padawan before Barriss Offee,[50] and Barriss is a little older than Ahsoka Tano.[51]
- New Canon · Depa Billaba (she/her) — Depa is friendly with Obi-Wan, who is affectionate towards her.[52]
Skills[]
Timelines[]
New Canon[]
A woefully incomplete timeline that only covers a small amount of his life.
The dates are sourced from Star Wars Timelines in terms of when things happen unless specified. The events themselves are sourced to the canon in which they occur. Where dates have "c.", it's because Timelines is a ridiculous book and only gives estimates of some events.
44 BBY (age 13)
- Obi-Wan becomes Qui-Gon Jinn's padawan. The beginning of his apprenticeship is spent in the Temple, largely focused on meditation, and he's anxious that this means that Qui-Gon considers him not good enough for missions outside the Temple, which all his friends go on already. He tries to rigidly adhere to rules and his training but finds he can't conEG New Chronologyt to the Force in the way he should be able to.[25][8]
- Obi-Wan goes on a mission alone to the planet Lehnara after discovering that a Wayseeker called Orla Jareni had tried to investigate it two hundred years ago but her records were incomplete. He suggests it to his master, who seems receptive,[55] but when the time comes to set off, Qui-Gon doesn't come to the hangar. In a fit of frustration, Obi-Wan sets out alone.[56] When he gets to Lehnara, he meets several teens who seem to be able to use the Force, as well as Dexter Jettser, who is working on a drilling ship.[57] He returns to Qui-Gon with records that Orla had left on the planet and finds that the adventure has made him marginally less anxious about his performance as a Padawan.[58][8]
c. 42 BBY (age 15)
- Obi-Wan goes with Qui-Gon to Mandalore, where they spend a year protecting Duchess Satine Kryze during the Mandalorian Civil War between Satine's New Mandalorians, who believe in pacifism, and Death Watch, who want to return to the warrior days of old. Obi-Wan and Satine fall in love, and Obi-Wan considers leaving the Order to be with her, but they ultimately decide against it.[8]
c. 41 BBY (age 16)
- Qui-Gon takes Obi-Wan to Kashyyyk to observe the Wookiee holiday of Life Day. The celebration is unexpectedly attacked by Trandoshans, and Qui-Gon is captured.[59] Obi-Wan tricks the Trandoshans into releasing him, and they work with the Wookiees to defeat them. Although Qui-Gon could have escaped by himself, he wanted Obi-Wan to learn to trust the Force and work without him.[53][8]
40 BBY (age 17)
- Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon go to Pijal to oversee a treaty signing between the Pijali monarchy and the Czerka Corporation. While there, he meets the Padawan that Dooku trained before Qui-Gon, Rael Averross.[8]
37 BBY (age 20)
- Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon go to the planet Bri'n to mediate a conflict over logging. Obi-Wan files the report on the mission when they get back to Coruscant. (We see almost nothing of Obi-Wan, and don't know how the conflict ends up resolving.)[60][8]
32 BBY (age 25)
- Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon go to Naboo to mediate a conflict between the Trade Federation and the world of Naboo. The Phantom Menace happens.[6][61]
- Qui-Gon finds Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine and takes him back to the Temple. When they go before the High Council, Qui-Gon says he will knight Obi-Wan so he can take on Anakin, despite telling Obi-Wan only days ago that he has much still to learn.[6][61]
- Qui-Gon is murdered by Darth Maul, the first Sith seen in a thousand years, and Obi-Wan bisects Maul, who is then presumed dead. Obi-Wan is given a field knighting for his defeat of Maul and takes on Anakin Skywalker as his padawan.[6][62]
Legends[]
This section is also woefully incomplete, but very slightly less of a mess.
For a summary of Obi-Wan's adventures depicted in Jedi Apprentice, see the Jedi Apprentice page.
44 BBY (Obi-Wan age 12)[]
- Obi-Wan is sent to Bandomeer four weeks before his thirteenth birthday to join the Agricorps because he hasn't been chosen as a Padawan.[63]
44 BBY (Obi-Wan age 13)[]
- Four weeks later, after a stint in slavery on a deep sea mining platform, Obi-Wan is chosen as a Padawan by Qui-Gon Jinn.[64]
- Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon defeat the Syndicat, the criminal organisation controlling the planet Phindar.[65]
- Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon oversee the peaceful transition from monarchy to democracy on the planet Gala.[66]
- Obi-Wan leaves the Jedi Order to fight with the Young, a faction in the Melida/Daan civil war made up entirely of children.[67]
- Over three months after he's sent to Bandomeer, the Melida/Daan civil war ends and Obi-Wan rejoins the Jedi Order.[68]
- Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon defeat Qui-Gon's former Padawan, Xanatos, on Xanatos's home planet of Telos.[69]
- Obi-Wan fights in the Stark Hyperspace War with Quinlan Vos, marking the beginning of their friendship.[37][Note 5]

Notes[]
- ↑ George Lucas joked that this was his birthplace back in 2010 and Lucasfilm ran with it. However, for canonical sourcing purposes...
Stewjon was listed as Obi-Wan Kenobi's "homeworld" on the StarWars.com Encyclopedia[9] that was online from 2011–2014. The use of the homeworld field on Encyclopedia was inconsistent. For instance:
- The entries for Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa clarified that it didn't mean place of birth, putting "Tatooine (born on Polis Massa)" and "Alderaan (born on Polis Massa)", respectively.
- Anakin Skywalker, who had no confirmed birthplace in Legends, had Tatooine listed as homeworld.
- Yoda's entry didn't even have "Unknown" like he did for his species, just omitted entirely.
- Other characters had a homeworld listed that was both their birthplace and where they were raised.
- ↑ Some books have stated his eye color is "brown" (wtf)[13] or "blue-gray".[3]
- ↑ Obi-Wan's facial moles disappear for Doylist reasons: Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor didn't have the same moles, and Ewan McGregor had some removed between filming the prequel trilogy and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Have fun coming up with headcanons about their disappearance!
- ↑ Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, when Obi-Wan takes Anakin as his Padawan, occurs in 32 BBY.[48] The Anakin Skywalker installment of Encyclopédie Star Wars says Dallenor is Anakin's first mission.[49] Since Timelines dates a mission to Carnelion IV that he goes on to 29 BBY,[48] it must happen before then.

So there's 9 years difference in age. Quin is Obi-Wan's age--which I think was stated as 25 during Ep I. So Aayla would be 16 at the time of Ep I. Working back from that--she would have been about 10 (Quin about 19--remember he was Tholme's padawan from a very early age--Obi-Wan didn't become Qui-Gon's padawan until he was 13.)"
