This Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars timeline attempts to weave together events from multiple sources, including:
- Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith
- ROTS deleted scenes
- Legends · ROTS novelization by Matthew Stover
- New Canon · The Siege of Mandalore final story arc from The Clone Wars 3D animated series
This timeline also notes supplementary books that make reference to deleted scenes, suggesting their events are canonical to a particular continuity. However, since this timeline merges together events from both continuities, some of which are unique to one of them, this is not a canonical timeline for either. The ROTS novelization is largely what guides the order of events since it was based upon the screenplay prior to the completion of filming (and thus before deleted scenes were excised or alternate takes were used instead).

The timeline[]
Coruscant attacked![]
War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Sith Lord, Count Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere.
In a stunning move, the fiendish droid leader, General Grievous, has swept into the Republic capital and kidnapped Chancellor Palpatine, leader of the Galactic Senate.
As the Separatist Droid Army attempts to flee the besieged capital with their valuable hostage, two Jedi Knights lead a desperate mission to rescue the captive Chancellor....
There are multiple versions of how Palpatine came to be on Grievous's flagship and how Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker ended up being the two Jedi sent after him. Pick your favorite, mix and match, or make up your own!
Labyrinth of Evil version[]
Obi-Wan never told you what happened in Labyrinth of Evil, but this section does. Before you read it, search your feelings: you know you'll be spoiled if you do.
- The search for Sidious begins
- A significant group of Senators meets up: Padmé Amidala of Naboo, Bail Organa of Alderaan, Mon Mothma of Chandrila, Terr Taneel, Bana Breemu, Fang Zar, and Chi Eekway.[note 1] Sate Pestage makes them wait when they show up for their scheduled meeting with Palpatine. They speak to him about rolling back powers and security measures to their prewar status and he pretends he'll totally let democracy happen.[2]
- After Anakin and Obi-Wan's business on Cato Neimoidia, which "doesn't... doesn't count" (because Obi-Wan accidentally got high on shrooms), they've failed to capture Nute Gunray but the Neimoidian's mechno-chair was left behind. Anakin is able to retrieve from it a recording of Gunray talking to Lord Sidious.[2]
- The Jedi Council previously thought Dooku was lying about Sidious's influence on the Galactic Senate or even his existence. The dark side's power is increasing and finding Sidious becomes a Jedi priority. The mechno-chair examination kicks off a pursuit of various clues about Separatist plans and towards Sidious. Anakin and Obi-Wan pursue things off-world while Yoda, Mace Windu, and other Jedi search on Coruscant.[2]
- Belderone
- Thanks to the mechno-chair and deciphering a Separatist code, the Jedi learn of General Grievous's upcoming attack on Belderone and intervene. Anakin and Grievous have a space battle and the Republic ends up seeing Belderone as a success, although the latter kills thousands of evacuating refugees before he skitters off.[2]
- Nice job breaking it, heroes
- When Yoda and Mace inform Palpatine about the mechno-chair situation, Belderone, and the message from Gunray to Sidious, Palpatine shows he recognizes the name. He encourages them to hunt down and capture Sidious to help end the war.[2]
- Dooku and Palpatine/Sidious meet up in their lair in The Works[note 2] Sidious is angry with him since he hadn't planned on revealing himself to the galaxy yet. However, since Obi-Wan and Anakin are the ones searching for him, he'll use this as an opportunity to further corrupt Anakin and (try to) eliminate Obi-Wan.
- As Sidious, he orders Grievous to invade Coruscant and capture Chancellor Palpatine. Grievous doesn't know Sidious = Palpatine.[2]
- Palpatine brings a bunch of people to Coruscant to deliver a State of the Republic speech to them in the Senate Building. It packs the Financial and Senate Districts with people who will contribute to the chaos in the attack.[2]
- They were so close
- On Coruscant, the team following Sith clues includes Mace, Shaak Ti, intelligence officer Captain Dyne, and ARC commander Valiant. The trail leads into a tunnel to the Senate district and a sub-basement of 500 Republica, where thousands of Coruscant's elite (including Chancellor Palpatine) live.[2]
- While they're down there, Grievous leads an attack on Coruscant, with the surface forces concentrated on the Senate District.[2]
- Dyne and Valiant continue hunting for Sidious's lair but are killed upon locating Palpatine, unable to pass that discovery along.[2]
- Playing hot potato with the Chancellor
- Mace sends Shaak Ti and Stass Allie to find Palpatine at the Senate Building and get him to safety. Bail, Mon, and Padmé tell the Jedi that Palpatine isn't at the Senate, so after escorting the Senators, they go back to 500 Republica and find him in his suite.[2]
- Palpatine declines to go to a secure bunker as advised by Shaak Ti, Allie, and his own advisors. Grievous, in an Separatist assault craft, fires at them through the window. The two Jedi lead Palpatine and the others into a turbolift.[2]
- Mace and Kit Fisto join them in a mag-lev train to take Palpatine to a bunker complex in the Sah'c District. Many other people are also in the train to flee the Senate and Financial Districts. Based on the battle droids' actions, the Jedi realize the Separatists want to take Palpatine alive. Grievous and Mace duel on the roof of the train and Grievous takes a tumble. The mag-lev derails (or whatever the word is) and everyone is evacuated from it.[2]
- Palpatine is taken to the bunker by Shaak Ti, Allie, and a Jedi Knight quartet of a female Twi'lek and three males: a human, a Talz, and an Ithorian. Grievous uses a code from Dooku to let himself into the bunker. He fights all four Knights while the MagnaGuards fight Republic soldiers and Red Guards. (The Jedi aren't named in this book.) When Kit and Mace arrive, an injured Stass Allie has found the bodies of the Knights and Shaak Ti is exhausted.[2]
- It was all a diversion
- Obi-Wan and Anakin spend chapters on a wild gundark chase to Tythe in search of Dooku. Anakin gets so furious about Dooku that he basically drops a building on them all (non-fatally, obvs.) This isn't helpful.[2]
- Obi-Wan and Anakin realize afterward Dooku was just a distraction to keep them away from Coruscant. R2-D2 brings an emergency comm recording for Anakin from Palpatine, "Anakin, if you are receiving this message, then I have urgent need of your help..."[2]
- Reports on the HoloNet are already confirming Palpatine's capture. Bail finds Padmé crying and afraid, holds her, and tells her, "Padmé, if it's any comfort to you, please know that my wife and I would do anything to protect you and those close to you." She sincerely thanks him.[2]
- Kit Fisto, Agen Tolar, Saesee Tiin, and Pablo-Jill all try and fail to stop Grievous's shuttle from escaping with Palpatine to the Invisible Hand. Three starfighters manage to follow Grievous into his ship; from them, two Jedi emerge and are killed by Grievous. Dooku heads for Coruscant to carry out Sidious's orders to test Anakin.[2]
- Dooku
Long have you watched him.- Sidious
Longer than you know, Lord Tyranus. Longer than you know. And the time has come to test him again.- Dooku
His skills, my lord?- Sidious
The depth of his anger. His willingness to go beyond the Force, as the Jedi know it, and to call on the power of the dark side. General Grievous will activate a special beacon that will call Skywalker and Kenobi back to Coruscant, and onto the stage we will set for them. You will duel them. Kill Kenobi. His only purpose is to die and, in so doing, ignite young Skywalker to tap the depths of his fear and rage. Should you defeat Skywalker easily, then we will know that he is not prepared to serve us. Perhaps he never will be prepared. Should he by some fluke best you, however, I will control the outcome to spare you any unnecessary embarrassment, and we will have gained a powerful ally. But above all you must make the contest appear real, Lord Tyranus.- Dooku
- — ACTING![2]
I will treat it as if it were my crowning achievement.
Clone Wars (2D) version[]
While Anakin and Obi-Wan are away on Nelvaan, a Separatist fleet attacks Coruscant on the "ground" and in space. Yoda and Mace battle alongside clone troopers to defend the Senate building. In Palpatine's 500 Republica suite, he declines to go to a secure bunker as advised by Shaak Ti and two other Jedi. Grievous breaks through a window.[3] (The other two Jedi are named elsewhere as Roron Corobb and Foul Moudama.)
Grievous almost nabs Palpatine before Shaak Ti pulls him away. As she's taking Palpatine downstairs in a turbolift, Grievous follows by running down the outside of the building. Jedi and clone troopers fail to stop him and he keeps up the chase to a tunnel until Shaak Ti catches his cape on a mag-lev train.[4]
Yoda and Mace, who've been fighting more droids, realize the Separatists are doing all this to get Palpatine. Shaak Ti continues guiding him to a bunker and fights MagnaGuards. Grievous, who beat Roron and Foul to the bunker, kills them. He takes Palpatine alive as he was ordered to, fails to capture Shaak Ti, and gets his organs squished by Mace before he flees. With their Nelvaan quest over, Obi-Wan and Anakin get word from Mace that they're needed at Coruscant immediately to rescue Palpatine.[5]
TROS novel version[]
The Separatist droid army invades Coruscant and battles clone troopers in the Galactic Senate building. Afterward, Palpatine is missing; then he's revealed as captured and held by Grievous through a live HoloNet transmission. Separatist and Republic starships battle above the planet.[novel 22]
New Canon version[]
Unlike the Legends Clone Wars (2D), the attack on Coruscant is referred to, not shown, in the New Canon-only final season of The Clone Wars (3D). Some events are also referenced in Star Wars Timelines.
- Separatist counteroffensive
- Aayla Secura is sent to Felucia, Plo Koon to Cato Neimoidia, and Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi to Yerbana.[6]
- Yerbana: daytime, post-battle
- Various starships
- Ahsoka, Bo-Katan, Anakin, and Obi-Wan meet up in person aboard a ship. Obi-Wan won't commit aid without first discussing it with the Jedi Council, but Anakin shows her a company of clone troopers who missed her, including Rex.[TCW 1][6]
- A sneak-attacking Separatist armada battles with the Coruscant Home Defense Fleet above Coruscant.[7]
- An incident that sounds like the Legends depictions: "Grievous ambushes Palpatine in the Federal District, killing Roron Corobb and knocking Shaak Ti unconscious, then kidnapping the chancellor."[7]
- Grievous takes Palpatine to the Invisible Hand, while the Home Defense Fleet positions itself to block the Separatists from accessing the hyperspace jump point.[7]
- Obi-Wan interrupts Ahsoka and Anakin as an alert goes out to prepare for an immediate jump to hyperspace. Grievous attacked Coruscant and Shaak Ti was sent to protect Palpatine, but Mace Windu lost contact with her. Anakin stops Obi-Wan and Ahsoka from debating Jedi and politics by suggesting he make a new division of his 501st Legion that'll attack Mandalore with Rex promoted to their Commander. Obi-Wan accepts and advises Ahsoka to capture rather than attempt to kill Maul. Anakin gives Ahsoka's lightsabers back to her before heading off to Coruscant.[TCW 1]
- Anakin
You capture Maul; I'll take care of Grievous. With any luck, this will all be over soon.- Ahsoka
Master Kenobi always said there's no such thing as luck.- Anakin
Good thing I taught you otherwise.- [Anakin turns to leave]
- Ahsoka
Anakin! Good luck.- [Anakin smiles at her and they go their separate ways]
— 💔[TCW 1]
The Battle of Coruscant continues[]
- Invisible Hand, grumpy old men
- Dooku and Grievous argue over the former's orders to drive the Jedi towards Palpatine's location, which Dooku says is according to Lord Sidious's wishes (Grievous doesn't know Palpatine is Sidious, unlike Dooku). Meanwhile, Sidious has claimed to Dooku that his plan is for Dooku to kill Obi-Wan to tip Anakin to the dark side, but be captured alive by Anakin, and then Dooku and Sidious will dismantle the Jedi Order and Republic to institute a new Empire with a Sith Army.[novel 2]
- Coruscant: in orbit
- The Open Circle Fleet arrives.[7]
- Obi-Wan and Anakin join other starfighters in battling with Separatist tri-fighters and vulture droids, making their way to the Invisible Hand.[1] Oddball, leading Clone Flight Seven, launches ARC-170 fighters from the Ro-Ti-Mundi to escort Anakin and Obi-Wan.[7]
- Firepower from the Jedi Cruiser Guarlara causes a systems failure on the Invisible Hand. While out of control, it's caught in Coruscant's gravity well.[7]
Aftermath[]
- Coruscant: afternoon, Senate Office Building
- During Anakin and Padmé's reunion, she tells him she's pregnant.[1]
- Utapau: Grievous's arrival
- Grievous has a holo-call with Darth Sidious, who tells him to move the Separatist leaders to Mustafar. Sidious will soon have a new apprentice.[1]
- Mandalore: daytime
- Bo-Katan's forces capture Almec[8] (Mandalore's Prime Minister but not the one genuinely in charge) after she duels him in Sundari's throne room.[TCW 1]
- 501st troops and Bo-Katan's Mandalorians battle against the Mandalorians led by Gar Saxon. When Ahsoka catches up to Maul, he's cranky that he didn't get Kenobi to show up.[TCW 1] He'd also hoped to lure Anakin but he has realized Darth Sidious's plans for the Republic and the Jedi are unfolding sooner than Maul expected.[TCW 2]
- Coruscant: late evening, Padmé's apartment, veranda
- Padmé brushes her curls[1]
- Coruscant: night, Padmé's apartment, bedroom
- Anakin has a Force premonition/nightmare about Padmé dying in childbirth[1]
3 days before the Empire[]
Power dynamics[]
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple, Yoda's quarters
- Anakin visits Yoda to discuss his premonitions of death in the vaguest terms. Yoda advises Anakin to let go of what he fears to lose.[1][novel 10]
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple
- Anakin joins Obi-Wan,[1][novel 10] either in a hologram briefing room[1] or coming from the landing deck.[novel 10] Obi-Wan talks about the movements of other Jedi and how the Senate is expected to vote more emergency powers to Palpatine. Also, Palpatine has requested Anakin's presence.[1][novel 10]
- Coruscant: daytime, Senate Office Building, Chancellor's office
- In Palpatine's office, he and Anakin discuss ending the war. Palpatine throws Anakin off balance by going from compliments that are also barbs about the Council to questioning whether Dooku was a Lord of the Sith and if Lord Sidious exists. Palpatine suggests the Jedi Council invented a mysterious infiltrator to give them an excuse, or if Sidious does exist, they should negotiate for help to end the war. Anakin doesn't do well with hypothetical, philosophical talk.[novel 10]
- Palpatine tells Anakin he's appointing him to be his personal representative on the Jedi Council.[1][novel 10]
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple, Council Chamber
- Attendees: Obi-Wan, Mace, Yoda, and Agen Kolar in person; Plo Koon (on the Courageous in the Ywllandr system) and Ki-Adi-Mundi via holopresence.[novel 11]
- Obi-Wan argues with the other Council members who see Anakin's appointment as an opportunity to use him as a spy. Aside from Anakin's temperament, Obi-Wan is concerned about expecting Anakin to betray his friend and weaponize their friendship.[novel 11]
- The others take Obi-Wan's point about impacting Palpatine and Anakin's relationship as an added bonus to get him away from that influence.[novel 11]
- The Council expects Sidious to learn whatever happens in the Chancellor's Office. Ki-Adi-Mundi notes that Anakin has proven his ability to defeat a Sith Lord, whether or not he's the Chosen One. Agen Kolar agrees with the point and suggests feeding information through Anakin as a way to draw out Sidious. Mace proposes sending one of their number into the field as bait; "we should appear short-handed, and weak, giving Sidious an opening to make a move he thinks will go unobserved." While he suggests both himself and Yoda, the latter says only one should go and decides to go to Kashyyyk.[novel 11]
- Mace further proposes "our most cunning and insightful Master—and our most tenacious—is to lead the hunt for Grievous." Obi-Wan catches on when he realizes everyone is looking at him.[novel 11]
- Coruscant: daytime, Senate Office Building, corridor
- Bail Organa sees the proclamation of the Sector Governance Decree. He uses a privacy code to contact Mon Mothma and tells her it's time to bring in other Senators. They agree upon Giddean Danu, Fang Zar, and Terr Taneel, but Bail hesitates when Mon suggests Amidala because of her longtime association with Palpatine. Mon says this'll be a way to see where Padmé stands.[novel 11]
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple, Council Chamber
- Anakin has been appointed to the Jedi Council by the Chancellor, but he is not granted the rank of Jedi Master.[1][novel 11]
- Part of Anakin's flaring anger is that he won't gain access to materials restricted to Masters, which he hoped would give him a way to save Padmé from dying.[novel 11]
- After young Skywalker takes his seat, the members discuss the Wookiees and searching for Grievous.[1][novel 11] They're basically playing out what they already decided upon for Anakin's benefit so he can report it to Palpatine.
A stirring in the Senate[]
- Coruscant: daytime, Bail Organa's office
- A small group of Senators is meeting.[deleted 1][9] First seats, from left to right: Mon Mothma, Bail Organa, and Padmé. Second seats, from left to right: Giddean Danu, Terr Taneel, and Fang Zar.[note 3]
- Bail says of Palpatine, "Now that he has control of the Jedi Council, the Chancellor has appointed Governors to oversee all star systems in the Republic."[deleted 1] Bail says appointing his own governors to oversee systems means Palpatine no longer has to control the Senate.[novel 11] Padmé is unsure if Palpatine means to dismantle the Senate and notes her history with him. She's alarmed that Bail is ready for a fight, which sounds like a Separatist. The group, including her, agree to stay confidential about everything discussed.[deleted 1][novel 11]
- Continuity note: In this deleted scene, Padmé wears her burgundy cut velvet robes.
Darkness deepening[]
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple, this is outrageous
- Anakin thinks it's outrageous and unfair that he's on the Council without being a Master. Obi-Wan argues with him and delivers the Council's order to spy on Palpatine.[1][novel 11]
- Coruscant: sunset, on a gunship
- Obi-Wan, Mace, and Yoda discuss Anakin, the Chosen One prophecy, and the danger of putting him with Palpatine. Yoda leaves for Kashyyyk.[1]
- Coruscant: sunset, Padmé's apartment, veranda
- On the veranda of Padmé's apartment, she talks with Anakin about their baby. She ordered her medical droid not to reveal the baby's gender, but she believes they're having a boy based on "motherly intuition"; Anakin counters, "with a kick that hard? Definitely a girl."[novel 12]
- They discuss what's happening to the Jedi and Republic. Anakin worries the war is destroying the Republic's principles.[1] Padmé, feeling out how he may react to something discussed earlier among the budding rebellion,[deleted 1][novel 11] asks if he's ever considered that they may be on the wrong side. He says she sounds like a Separatist.[1][novel 12]
- Continuity note: In this film scene, Padmé is still wearing her burgundy cut velvet robes from the deleted scene "A Stirring in the Senate".
Night at the opera[]
Palpatine tells Anakin that clone intelligence spotted Grievous hiding in the Utapau system. According to him, Anakin is the best choice for the assignment and he can't rely on the Council; they're plotting to control the Republic and betray him. Anakin doesn't think so, but he agrees that they don't trust him and admits his trust in the Council is shaken. Palpatine observes they asked Anakin to spy on him. And the tale of Darth Plagueis the Wise.[1][novel 12]
Afterward, Anakin goes to the Temple rather than returning to Padmé's apartment. As the "greatest nexus of Force energy on the planet, perhaps even the galaxy," he believes intense meditation there may lead to insights from the Force.[novel 12]
2 days before the Empire[]
Seeds of Rebellion[]
- Coruscant: dawn, Padmé's apartment
- Obi-Wan visits Padmé's apartment in the early morning/[9]at dawn[novel 13] "this morning"[novel 14] to discuss Anakin. He hopes that Anakin has talked to her about what's happening with the Jedi Council and the Chancellor and she pretends Anakin has no reason to talk to her about his work. Obi-Wan points out neither Padmé nor Anakin is good at hiding their feelings about each other; he's aware they're in a relationship and he's concerned that some of Anakin's current emotional struggles are related to it.[9][novel 13]
- Obi-Wan suggests she consider whether it's in Anakin's best interests to remain in the Jedi Order or leave it to be with her. He is interrupted by Mace Windu calling a special Council session because they've located Grievous.[novel 13]
- Obi-Wan assures Padmé that he won't tell the Council any of this.[9][novel 13]
- Before Obi-Wan leaves, Padmé points out that they both love Anakin and asks Obi-Wan to help him.[novel 13]
- Continuity note: This scene was filmed but has not been released as a deleted scene; only still images and silent footage are available (as of 2024). In it, Padmé wears her green devoré velvet gown with the hood down.
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple, Council Chamber
- Attendees: Obi-Wan, Anakin, Mace, and Agen Kolar in person; Plo Koon[1] (on Cato Neimoidia),[novel 13] Ki-Adi-Mundi[1] (en route to Mygeeto),[novel 13] and Yoda[1] (approaching Kashyyyk)[novel 13] via holopresence.[1][novel 13] Anakin tells Council that Palpatine thinks Anakin should be the one to face Grievous. They disagree and decide Obi-Wan will go.[1][novel 13]
- Coruscant: daytime, Padmé's apartment, living room
- Padmé is hosting a meeting of the allied Senators.[9][novel 13] First seats, from left to right: Chi Eekway, Padmé, and Mon Mothma. Second seats, from left to right: Giddean Danu, Bana Breemu, and Fang Zar. Bail Organa is standing.[note 3]
- Padmé offers hoi-broth to Chi Eekway, a detail that will come up again in another chapter.[novel 13]
- The growing group of Senators talk about forming an alliance and presenting a petition of two thousand Senators to the Chancellor. Padmé suggests they consult the Jedi Order, or one Jedi she absolutely trusts;[deleted 2][novel 13] internally, she surprises and appalls herself by realizing she means Obi-Wan, not Anakin.[novel 13]
- Padmé is disappointed when the rest of the group decides they will first see what they can accomplish with the petition before involving the Jedi.[deleted 2][novel 13]
- Continuity note: In this deleted scene, Padmé wears her green devoré velvet gown with the hood up. If it's edited back into the film, she repeats this outfit on different days and makes at least one outfit change during this same day, depending on the inclusion of the "Confronting the Chancellor" deleted scene.
Last meetings[]
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple, landing platform
- Anakin and Obi-Wan say their final goodbyes to each other before Obi-Wan leaves for Utapau, ending things on a positive note.[1][novel 13] Ouch.
- Mandalore: daytime, Sundari Royal Palace, throne room
- It's unclear if Obi-Wan is in transit or hasn't left Coruscant yet, so this TCW scene could be before or after the prior ROTS scene.[note 4]
- Ahsoka is in the throne room with Bo-Katan and Rex. Obi-Wan contacts them via hologram. When Ahsoka says that Maul mentioned the name "Darth Sidious", Obi-Wan shares the Council suspects Sidious is the Sith Lord who orchestrated war and played both sides from the beginning. He learned that name from Dooku but they can't learn more about Sidious from him because Anakin killed him while rescuing Chancellor. Obi-Wan suggests capturing Maul to learn more. Ahsoka asks for more men but Obi-Wan can't help with that; "I'm being sent to hunt down General Grievous on Utapau."[TCW 2]
- When Ahsoka asks if Anakin can reinforce them, Obi-Wan asks to speak to her alone and Bo-Katan and Rex leave. Obi-Wan tells Ahsoka that the Jedi Council put Anakin on a special assignment to spy on the Supreme Chancellor to learn his true intentions for remaining in power. Ahsoka is shocked and says the Chancellor has been a "great friend and mentor", so Anakin can't be happy about it. Obi-Wan suggests Ahsoka speak to Anakin about it and agrees with her that the Council isn't always right. Rex interrupts them to say there's been an attack. Ahsoka begins to say, "Tell Anakin..." and doesn't finish her thought, but Obi-Wan says he will. She leaves to address Rex's report.[TCW 2]
- Since no conversation between Ahsoka and Anakin is shown on-screen, and we also never hear of Obi-Wan and Anakin speaking between their goodbye and their duel on Mustafar, she may have never sent Anakin a message herself or Obi-Wan doing so on her behalf. We do see Anakin using a datapad in Padmé's living room, upon which he could have received messages or reports. Cue the fic bunnies.
- Mandalore: royal prison
- Almec is imprisoned and Ahsoka, Bo-Katan, and Rex question him there. As ordered by Maul, Gar Saxon shoots Almec to silence him, although not before Almec mumbles the name "Skywalker" as a person of interest to Maul.[TCW 2][note 4]
- Afterward, Maul speaks to his Shadow Collective via hologram and orders his fellow syndicate leaders to go into hiding.[TCW 2][note 4]
- Coruscant: daytime, Padmé's apartment, living room
- Anakin senses that Obi-Wan visited Padmé earlier and is suspicious. Padmé and Anakin discuss the latter's fears.[1][novel 13]
- Continuity note: In this film scene, Padmé wears her dark daytime dress.[1] In the novel, she's instead described as wearing "full Senatorial regalia: heavy folds of burgundy robes and a coif like a starfighter's hyperdrive ring."[novel 14] That description sounds like her burgundy cut velvet robes, which she doesn't wear on this day in the film or in the deleted scene after this.
- Anakin senses that Obi-Wan visited Padmé earlier and is suspicious. Padmé and Anakin discuss the latter's fears.[1][novel 13]
- Coruscant: sunset, Senate Office Building, Chancellor's office
- Presenting the Petition of 2000,[deleted 3][novel 14][9] seated left-to-right: Nee Alavar, Padmé, Fang Zar, and Malé-Dee. Standing: Meena Tills and Jar Jar Binks.[note 3]
- Continuity note: In this deleted scene, Padmé wears her peacock and brown gown. If all deleted scenes are restored in order, she wears three outfits in one day!
- Presenting the Petition of 2000,[deleted 3][novel 14][9] seated left-to-right: Nee Alavar, Padmé, Fang Zar, and Malé-Dee. Standing: Meena Tills and Jar Jar Binks.[note 3]
Capturing Maul[]
- Mandalore: evening
1 day before the Empire[]
Galactic conference call[]
- Coruscant: daytime, Jedi Temple
- Attendees: Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker in person;[1][novel 15] Commander Cody (on Utapau), Yoda (on Kashyyyk), Ki-Adi-Mundi[1][novel 15] (on Mygeeto),[novel 15] and Aayla Secura[1][TCW 3] (on Felucia) via holopresence.
- Novel calls this location "the holocomm center of Jedi Command".[novel 15] Cody joins the call already in progress to notify the Jedi that Obi-Wan has made contact with Grievous and the clones have begun their attack. Mace tells Anakin to deliver that report to Palpatine and Anakin leaves to do so.[1][novel 15]
- Mandalore: daytime
- Rex steps away from the meeting (we don't see him attending it) to fetch Ahsoka. He answers her question that Anakin was in the meeting when Rex left it, so she's hoping to see/speak to him.[TCW 3]
- From respective locations
- The other Jedi continue speaking; Mace senses a plot to destroy the Jedi and the dark side surrounding the Chancellor. Mace says the Jedi Council will have to take control of the Senate for a peaceful transition. Yoda is concerned that line of thought will lead them to a dark place.[1][TCW 3]
- Ahsoka joins the meeting and informs them she has Maul in custody, ready to escort to Coruscant. She asks Mace where Anakin went and he tells her. Yoda shares that Obi-Wan has engaged Grievous. Since Ahsoka is now a civilian rather than a Jedi, Mace does not divulge further details she asks for.[TCW 3]
- Before Yoda and Ahsoka sign off from the call, he asks if she has a message for Skywalker, but she declines; she'll tell him herself when she sees him.[TCW 3]

- ↑ 4.0 4.1 4.2 This timeline does not follow the Timelines spread "Jedi on the Brink", which places events from ROTS, a deleted scene, and TCW's "Old Friends Not Forgotten" and "The Phantom Apprentice" in a timeline. Scenes from "The Phantom Apprentice" are in the wrong order. In the actual episode, which must take place after the ROTS opera scene (because that's the night Palpatine tells Anakin about Grievous's location and Obi-Wan leaves for Utapau the following day), Obi-Wan speaks to Ahsoka via hologram about Utapau and Anakin before the scenes of Saxon killing Almec and Maul scattering his syndicate. However, Timelines puts those scenes in the following order that has them before the opera, italics ours:[8]
- Bo-Katan captures Almec and Ahsoka confronts Maul in the undercity.
- Anakin has a nightmare.
- Anakin is placed on the Council and asked to spy on Palpatine.
- Bail, Padmé, Mon, and other senators secretly meet.
- Yoda leaves for Kashyyyk.
- Gar Saxon kills the imprisoned Almec.
- "Maul orders his underlings to go into hiding."
- The opera scene.
- "Obi-Wan travels to Utapau to hunt for Grievous."
- Bo-Katan's forces and clone troopers battle Saxon and his warriors; the latter loses.
- Ahsoka confronts Maul in the throne room and duels him, then Rex's troops capture him.
- Obi-Wan confronts and chases Grievous on Utapau.
