Keeve swears a lot

Keeve Trennis has a thorough swearword vocabulary even as an Initiate.

If he hadn’t been so worried about Luke, he might even have stuck around and taught a few of them the value of real cursing, Corellian-style—Corellian curses being a synergistic blend of vulgarity, obscenity, and outright blasphemy that were the only things really worth saying when one was in the middle of being blown to monatomic dust.
— We don't know what these amazingly powerful Corellian cursewords are but Han Solo must approve of some of the entries on this page.[1]

For when you want your character to use something other than "kriff" or "kark", but you also don't want to use regular swear words. It's organised into the role the words play in a sentence because they don't necessarily map onto any of our swears, unlike many listings on idioms that have IRL equivalents. The same word can appear in multiple tables. If you want fancier insults, see Insults.

When there is a culture listed, that doesn't necessarily mean it's restricted to that culture, merely that the example cited is that group. When no culture is listed, it's because there doesn't seem to be a specific one.

Intensifier[]

Swear Example Culture(s)/Language
Blasted "Can't see a blasted thing above us."[2]
Chaos "What in chaos are you—"[3]
Crikking "Hey! Watch where you're goin'. Crikking Jedi."[4]
Fierfek "What the fierfek are those?"[5] Originally a Huttese word meaning "hex" or "death curse",[6] but now widespread as a general swear divorced from that meaning.[5]
Flarging "I don't know who had targeted me for the attack (or even who threw the flarging thing)..."[7]
Frag; fragging
  • Hell
  • All the shiny hells
  • Eight Stalbringion hells
  • Hells of the Sith
  • Nine Corellian hells
  • Seven hells
  • Ninety-nine hells
  • "Han! What the hell are you doing?"[10]
  • "What in all the shiny hells am I supposed to do with you?"[11]
  • "Where in eight Stalbringion hells did that come from?"[12]
  • "Boba Fett, in the name of all the hells of Barab, what are you doing here?"[13]
  • "Who in the hells of the Sith are you?"[14]
  • "Where in all nine Corellian hells am I?"[15]
  • "What in the seven hells is going on?"[16]
  • "A desert! What in the ninety-nine hells?"[17]
Everyone. At least some of the Corellian hells are shiny, because that one is said by a Corellian bureaucrat (but the ninth Corellian hell is cold![18]). The one with ninety-nine hells is a sarlacc. Apparently sarlaccs not only have hells, but they have ninety-nine of them. The "seven hells" is likely referencing the seven hells of the Sith (see Exclamations), since the speaker is a Jedi. People don't have to be of the culture noted to swear by their hells.
Kark; kark tower; karking
  • "What the kark?"[19]
  • "What the kark tower are you doing??"[20]
  • "Ben looked confused for a moment, then winced as he realized that he had just inadvertently called the Grand Master of the Jedi Order a karking fool."[21]
Kriff; kriffing "And here I was wishing the kriffing war had never started."[22]
Krizz box Maz Kanata: "Then there's only one thing left to do..."
Dexter Jettster: "Get the krizz box out of here?"[23]
Maker "What in the Maker's name are you talking about?"[24] Droids[24]
Shab "Now what the shab was worth nearly freezing to death for?"[25] Mando'a;[25] possibly related to the Mando'a word shabla, meaning "screwed up".[Note 2]
Shukking "Everyone is so scared here. Those poor people, even that shukking bully."[27]
Stang "How the stang did you access that?"[28]
Storm "What the Storm are they doing?!"[29] Nihil[29]
Vape; vaping
Varp
  • "Get the varp out of here"[34]
  • "What in varp’s name was that?"[35]
Void
  • "What in void's name is that?"[36]
  • "Who the void are you?!"[37]

Swear Example Culture(s)/Language
Dank[80] "Dank it!"[80]
Frag "Frag you."[81]
Kark "Kark if I know."[82]

"Jag, he’s only doing his duty—"
"Vape his duty. Come to think of it, vape the neat little hole between his eyes. I’m going to burn his face clean off. Closed-casket funeral for him, diplomatic immunity for me. Let him in."[85][Note 3]
Varp "Engines are varped. Shielding nonexistent."[86]

By Surik's Blade[90] Jedi;[90] possibly refers to Meetra Surik, a Jedi from the Old Republic[77]
By the song of the luminous[53] Jedi[53]

Sex-related[]

Despite "kriffing" being a frequent word for having sex in fics, I can't yet find any Star Wars words in Legends or New Canon for sex. While there are multiple instances of characters talking about sex, they just use regular English words.

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 "Frag" is also used in the term "frag grenade" and other weapons with fragmentation effects. "Fragging" in Star Wars has nothing to do with the real-world meaning of killing a superior officer.
  2. 2.0 2.1 The -la suffix creates an adjective out of a noun, and we have both shabla and shabiir (to screw up) in an official vocab list.[26]
  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 "Vape" is both a swear word and also slang for getting vaporised or otherwise killed,[31] which also develops into the metaphorical sense of being defeated: In Ruin: Dark Tide II, Jaina says, "General Antilles and Colonel Celchu regularly vape me in exercises."[32]
  4. In The Rising Storm it's used by a Jedi, Elzar Mann, referring to Ashla, one of the moons of the planet Tython. As well as a moon of Tython[39] , Ashla was understood in Legends by the proto-Jedi to correspond to the Light side of the Force [40], and the term 'Ashla' made its way into the (new canon) Imperial era as a term for the Light [41][42].
