Some are driven to follow in their parents’ footsteps, while others loathe the very concept. For Theron Shan, it’s a moot point. In keeping with Jedi strictures against attachment, Theron’s mother, Grand Master Satele Shan, sent her infant son to be raised by the Jedi who trained her, Master Ngani Zho. Over time, as it became evident that Theron was not Force sensitive like his mother, he abandoned any notion of becoming a Jedi. Eventually, he joined the Strategic Information Service, using his adventurous nature and unique skillset to become a trusted field agent for the Republic.
— Theron Shan is a Person of Note[7]

There is very little about Theron Shan's character premise that's not extremely dramatic. He was raised as a Jedi[Note 1] but isn't Force-Sensitive. He's the secret son of two of the Old Republic's greatest war heroes,[2] and a descendant of Revan.[1] He's the spy who saved the galaxy (multiple times).[1][8] and perhaps the Star Wars: The Old Republic fandom's favourite bisexual disaster.

Personality[]

Marcus Trant
Theron’s methods can sometimes be a bit too … stylish.
Jace Malcom
Stylish?
Marcus Trant
He prefers to go through the window instead of a perfectly good door. [...] His loyalty to the Republic is absolute. He’s just … unfocused. He sees something that doesn’t sit right with him and he has to get involved, even if it’s not part of the mission. He likes to improvise instead of sticking to plans.
Jace Malcom
Sounds to me like he’s just going above and beyond.
[Directly after this conversation, he climbed into an apartment (that he had been invited to) through a window. The apartment is in a skyscraper. On Coruscant.]
— Talking about Theron Shan[9]

Theron despises sitting still and doing desk work when he thinks there's more important work he can do elsewhere. Being assigned desk work for three months is something he regards as being sentenced to prison.[10]

He finds it hard to trust people, and for much of his life he prefers to work alone.[1] Most of Theron's relationships are complex, and sometimes turbulent.

Theron and Satele Shan.

We aren't exactly close; the Jedi don't care much for family dynamics. Doesn't mean I can't check up on her, though.
— Theron, about Satele[11]

While he and Satele find it difficult to communicate effectively with each other,[12] they care about one another and work to build a relationship.[1]

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 Theron spent the first years of his life raised by a Jedi[2][3] The first volume of Lost Suns notes that Theron meditates almost every morning.[3] Annihilation establishes his knowledge of the Jedi Code, with his quippy 'There is no comfort, there is only squalor,' and in chapter 2 of the book he uses a series of Jedi mental exercises.[2] While he is not a formal part of the Jedi Order, he was raised within their cultural practices.
